Heaven’s Basement – Academy – Newcastle – 11th December, 2009

First off huge apologies to New Device whose set we missed entirely thanks to the fact we didn’t realise doors were at 6pm until it was too late to make it up to Newcastle in time, through the thick fog masking the A1… and for not taking any piccies of Dear Superstar as we didn’t get photo passes till after your 3rd song. Thanks to Chris for running around and sorting us out.

I must admit that not photographing Dear Superstar gave me the opportunity to stand at the back and take in their show. And again I was impressed with the energy and exuberance … perhaps they ARE winning me over! …

Having cleared the photo pass hurdle next came the battle with the Security guard to allow us to shoot more than the first 3 songs. Big thanks again to Chris for ruining his “fun” and telling him to let us shoot the whole set! He had to be content with trying to block as many photos as he could.

So it was a little disappointing to only have lighting behind the band and only the side of the stage to shoot from. Well there is nothing like a good challenge and I got to use the higher iso range of the 4dMkII …

Thankfully the guys put on a great show again and the audience reaction was fantastic … Newcastle really went nuts for Heaven’s Basement. I just hope that some of the 570 piccies I took capture a little of this special night. It was the reaction of the audience tonight that makes all the hard work and sacrifice of being in a band seem worthwhile.

… we were gonna have a night off tonight but we enjoyed ourselves so much in Newcastle we’re off to Stoke tonight … just in case its even better!

Gutted we missed New Device. I was looking forward to seeing theur set again
As MrRob has already said, last night was one hurdle after another with photo passes, when we could take photos, where we could take photos etc. arrghhhh
I eventually got he security guy to say Yes, ok you can take pics, even tho the band had aleady played 3 songs.
So I tried to get a few shots of Dear Superstar. What I saw of the set, was brilliant. Loads of energy and they had the crowd going crazy.
Lack of any real lighting and being stuck at side of stage, it was a limited ‘photo’ op. But here’s a few that are ‘ok’ ish

On to Heaven’s Basement
I took a few shots, but being limited again with lack of lighting and being at side, I wasn’t really getting any great shots. So I decided to put the camera away and go and enjoy the gig from in the crowd. Then it was down to merch to get in Alex’s way, oops I mean to help out

A fantastic night, considering all the hurdles and being late. Roll on the tonight
