*Heaven’s Basement, Dear Superstar & New Device* @ Sugarmill Sat 12th Dec 2009

We were supposed to be taking a night off from gigs, but the pull of seeing Heaven’s Basement again was too strong. So we headed off to Stoke
Everytime we come to Sugarmill, we have a great night and tonight was no exception.
As there were a lot of photgraphers coming tonight, I decided to stand at front of venue and stay there for rest of night. Was safest place for me ![]()
Yes it limted the shots I could get, but MrRob and Pedro were covering other areas of the venue, so we should all have something different to show you
There were a few ladies at front with us, who’d been queuing for 5 hours. Now that’s dedication to the ROCK cause. Hope you’ve warmed up now ladies.
New Device
After a very short sound check, the guys had barely a chance to catch their breath before doors opened and they had to hit the stage. Another energetic set from the guys, but it wasn’t without it’s problems. NO sooner had Robb swapped his ‘broken’ guitar for Phil’s spare, when Phil’s string broke and he needed it back. The gremlins were in tonight
Soundwise, at front the sound wasn’t so good, I couldn’t really hear Dan’s vocals. But MrRob tells me it sounded great from back of venue and balcony
Next up were Dear Superstar
These guys have really grown on me and now I look forward to catching their set. Micky is a dream to photograph, he pulls some amazing faces and does some ‘extreme’ dance moves, always something going on
and even though he doesn’t know it, he’s got the microphone cable whipping sorted. With a swift crack of the cable, he managed to catch both Sabra and myself across the head. Nice shot Micky
A fast paced set from the guys. I’m still not keen on their cover version of Lola, I would rather they played another of their own songs.
Headliners Heaven’s Basement took to stage and it was full on energy from the crowd from the minute they took to the stage to the minute they left. Gone are the days where we quite happily stand at front and not get shoved, poked or kicked in head by over excited fans (People wanting to grab the guys, crowd surfers). Elbows were used a lot last night
The guys get better and better every gig and it’s a pleasure to watch and listen to them. Richie’s melodic Welsh vocals are superb. He commands the crowds attention with his every movement.
They never did get to the end of Executioner’s Day. The crowd were already whipped into a frenzy, surging forward, jumping around, singing, trying to get closer to the band…..and then…….Richie made the mistake of inviting the crowd on to the already cramped stage!!!!! Chaos, mayhem, it was CRAZY. People battling to get on stage, while the rest of us scrambled to get out of the way!! Then the music came to an abrupt stop as people fell like dominoes into the drum kit!! poor Chris. Hope it wasn’t damaged
One image I have in my head, but not a photo of, is Sid, making his escape from the stage, lol
Poor Sabra suffered another ROCK injury. Her foot was stamped on several times. Last night we weren’t sure if she’d cracked a bone, but luckily it just looks bruised today Phew
What a night!! Was fan bloody tastic. I can’t wait for Leeds
