Glyder & Black Freeway @ The Diamond Bar, Aohgill Ballymena

Well, the trip over to catch Glyder started with a text message from MrRob enquiring if I knew that the Answer were playing in Belfast the night after the Glyder gig in Ballymena – didn’t take long for me to convince him that the fair people of the Diamond bar were………..nutters I think was my phrase and that we should do it.

Well thankfully we had Donna to organise us, so after booking flights, hotels and a hire car we were all set.

That’s about as much as I can properly recall of the trip, I know there was Guinness, I know we were rocked, I know we couldn’t work the boot lock on the car and that I lost the coin toss to get up early on Monday morning to feed the meter outside the hotel.

Oh yeah……if you’re hungry , try the fish supper at the chippie across the road from the Diamond Bar.

As for Glyder……..well I think it was a pleasant surprise for them that we turned up – no matter how fearful they were for the food in their dressing room. I must admit that even though there are a few pics below, by the time they came on and rocked for what seemed hours I was way too into getting into the music than seriously trying to compose nice arty gig shots. The locals filled the dance floor in front of the stage and lapped up everything thrown at them, from early Glyder through to new unreleased stuff and a few covers from their influences thrown in for good measure – though thankfully we were spared any Johnny Cash.

A few words about the venue- been revamped since I was there in September, excellent new stage with a full lighting rig and LOUD pa (which Murph controlled fantastically). But the venue would be nothing without the love and energy put into the place by Derwin & Fiona, I only wish there were a few places like that this side of the water.

Thought I’d add my photos onto the end of Pedro’s post as I cant remember much about the weekend either …. except it was a fantastic gig by Glyder and it was great to see them and 2/3rds of their girls too!! B) … the Diamond bar was indeed full of nutters and the Guinness was “refreshing”.
